About our walks

Each walk is planned and arranged by a leader who is responsible for the route taken and is in overall control of the walk. Club members will normally meet at the Pavilion Gardens Car Park at 9:30am for long walks or 10:00am for short walks - from here, cars are often used as transport to the start of the walk. Walks will finish sometime between 3:00 and 6:00pm, depending on length, so a packed lunch and flask is recommended. Whilst cafes and/or public houses will often feature on most walks, in general they should not be relied upon.

Whilst you will not need sophisticated mountaineering equipment for walks, Peak District weather and terrain can be notoriously fickle, so walking shoes or boots are recommended, together with warm clothing, waterproof clothing and a small rucksack to carry it all. If you are likely to travel in someone's car, please bring a change of footwear or boot covers. As part of their risk assessment leaders would not allow you to join a walk if they felt that you were not adequately equipped or prepared, so if you have any doubts regarding suitable equipment, please discuss in advance with either the leader or any of the club's officers.
