Spring 2013

We are now into the Spring Equinox and at the time of writing Buxton is enveloped in a thick blanket of snow! This time last year we had balmy temperatures of around 20°C. Still, I'm sure that the better weather is literally just around the corner.

The club has a few new members to whom I would like to extend a warm welcome. They are Gordon Moseley, Bob Luker, Bernadette Hancock, Fin Green and Jane Robertson. May you all enjoy many happy hours walking with our club. It is with sadness that I report the death of one of our esteemed club members, Martin Milne, who will be remembered with affection by everybody who knew him.

Committee News
Di Howe has now stepped down from the committee after seven years as Rambles and Walks Secretary. A big thank you goes to Di for all her efforts over such a long time. Paul Cook has kindly agreed to take over the Walks and has already made excellent progress in putting together the Summer Programme. For anyone needing to contact Paul, you can email him on buxtonramblers@btinternet.com. Helen Barker has kindly agreed to take over Membership. For anyone needing to contact Helen for payment of subs her contact details helen.barker@toucansurf.com.

Yvette Ibbottson has kindly volunteered and been accepted as a new member of the committee. So a big warm welcome goes to Yvette.

Walk classification.
One of our members suggested that our "E" (easy) walks should be re-named "S" (short) walks. The committee discussed this proposal and decided to adopt it. So the "E" (easy) walks will now become "S" (short) walks, "MS" walks will now become "L" (long) and the "M" (moderate) walks remain the same.

Last minute changes to a planned walk
Finally I would like say that our walk leaders will always do their best to stick to the planned walk but sometimes this is not always possible (i.e. because of bad weather). In such situations, leaders will endeavour to do their best to contact other members to advise of change but sometimes this is not always possible. It is however ultimately the individuals' responsibility to contact the leader in order to verify that the walk will take place.

Autumn 2012

Chairperson's Remarks

Despite a seemingly short season with some rather inclement weather we have enjoyed an excellent summer programme of walks. A big thank you must go our Rambles Secretary, and to the leaders of the walks.

Our Rambles Secretary, Di has expressed a wish to step down from her position at the next AGM. If anyone in the club is interested in helping out, then please have a chat with any committee member.

Welcome to our latest club member, Charlotte and I hope you enjoy many happy hours walking with our club.

Congratulations to Val on recently completing the BUPA Great North Run and doing it within her target time of 2 hours 30 minutes. Thatís a fantastic achievement for a very worthy cause! Valís husband was unfortunately unable to take part in the run due to a torn calf muscle. Best wishes to Pete for a speedy recovery.

Congratulations must also go to Judy and her intrepid team, on the completion of yet another long distance trail this year, namely the Ribble Way. With so many trails now completed, Iím sure the ladies are fast running out of ideas for where to walk next year.

Speedy recovery wishes to Sue who sustained a broken wrist when she fell at a notoriously muddy spot on a recent walk. I would also like to thank everyone who very kindly helped Sue on the day.

Anneís 80th birthday celebration was recently held at Chapel Golf Club and was attended by 25 of our club members. This was a very enjoyable evening with an excellent meal provided by the Golf Club. Thanks to Elaine for helping to organise this lovely event and to Helen for providing the cake. Anne has asked me to pass on thanks to everyone who helped make her party such an enjoyable and memorable occasion for her.
